Interesting – the Euphemism

This has been an interesting year…

( “‘Fascinating’ is a word I use for the unexpected. In this case, I should think ‘interesting’ would suffice.

–Mr. Spock, “The Squire of Gothos,” Star Trek, Jan 12, 1967)

…so, no, not completely ‘fascinating’…

  • Spent half my savings on a single piece of software
  • Married a ‘fascinating’ woman
  • Laid off
  • Spent the other half on lab equipment
  • Dug resonant lines out of mothballs
  • Calculated the number of (paying) projects needed to thrive / survive
  • Did some successful projects, but not the number
  • Tried to market ‘Mark’

Even though I ‘knew’ about the difficulties of starting any business, let alone as a freelance RF antenna engineer, I had not had the experience. So the experience has been ‘interesting’.

Every successful project so far has come from calling acquaintances on the phone or sending them email(s). Around 15% of the people I contacted awarded me a project. (‘Fascinating’. :-)) Trouble is, I haven’t enough acquaintances to call or email in order to achieve the number. (Erm, ‘interesting’…)

…to Ambasador Spock

So it looks like I will need to meet many more people in ’12. Let us hope and pray it will be a ‘fascinating’ year.

Crying in the Wilderness

So they said to him, “Who are you? We need an answer! What do you have to say for yourself?”
